My mother’s family were Jehovah’s Witnesses. She married a USMC sergeant who was not a JW. We moved often, and attendance at meetings was on and off.

I was scared of the graphic pictures in the Paradise Lost book. If I could, I would sue JWs!

I was shunned, even though I was not baptized. No one would talk to me. No one attended my college graduation in 1976 because Armageddon was near.

I was shouted out if I entered a room. Mom had 10 siblings! A lot of people yelling or ignoring me.

Years ago, I asked my sister one question: How did JWs get started? She and another sister block my calls.

Shunning continues at age 72. This treatment is terrible, but Jesus is Lord. Thank you.

Stop Mandated Shunning is a project of the Open Minds Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation in the United States. Internationally, we operate as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) working to end the practice of mandated shunning and to defend the human rights of those affected by coercive control.
